Once retired, I took the opportunity to nurture my creative impulses by experimenting with various painting media before trying watercolour, now my medium of choice. Through self-teaching, mentorship, and much practice, I have become a watercolourist of excellence. Currently President of Arteast Ottawa, I also maintain membership with the organization as well as memberships with the Canadian Society of Watercolour Painters, Arts Carleton Place, and the Kanata Art Club.
I have exposed and sold my work in various commercial and non-commercial venues as well as participated in juried shows as opportunities have arisen. I paints on a regular basis and challenges myself by experimenting with different subject matter such as portraits, nature, landscape and still-life. My current focus is on trees, mushrooms, and other natural surroundings.
I feel that the possibilities with watercolour are endless, enjoying the flexibility, transparency, and fluid qualities of the medium. I captivate the viewer with my strong sense of tonal value and texture, using my brush and tools in different ways to achieve these elements effectively. My love of natural habitats is evident in the way that I represent them, clearly demonstrating my affinity towards my subject matter.
I look forward to continuing to grow as I continue on my creative journey with watercolour.
